    Although I have no information to verify that this was the intention, it occurs to me that Picard got the karma of payback for getting Ensign Sito Jaxa killed in a previous episode, Lower Decks, on a similar type of mission to the one in which Lieutenant Ro Laren defected to the ranks of the Maquis.

    Washington and the rest were called traitors by England. Terrorists was not yet a word in use. Certainly innocents died then; no war happens without that. Washington was very meticulous as much as he could be about obeying the rules of war as they were at that time. But at the same time he ordered Indian villages destroyed as they had allied with England and he had to make sure that they did not effectively hinder his campaigns. Terrorism is a word used too often today. Calling someone a terrorist happens too easily today. I guess you have to get down to the bedrock of what they are doing and why. For example Hamas is a terrorist organization dedicated to the destruction of Israel that is called freedom fighters by anti Semites. They want to destroy a country and its people so that to me qualifies them as terrorists.

    Scotty was on a low-range transport ship on the way to a Federation colony, so presumably this is a well-charted area of space...and nobody noticed this solar-system encompassing sphere before? And after the crash, the ship sat there atop it for 75 years sending out a distress call without anybody noticing it? Presumably there would be a search party when the ship failed to arrive at its destination, especially if the passengers included one of the most famous officers in Starfleet.

    a lot of very well written TNG episodes get bad rep because of silly props like these, but i thought this episode was a highlight for data's character

    Agree, looks more like a 68 Pontiac Firebird or a Pontiac Catalina Sport. Front and rear needs more rendering to get the 70 Cuda look. Really like the sides.

    1:00 - it's kind of funny how Picard always thought of his inability to form connections the way Riker does as a 'defect' of his own personality - leading to him choosing Riker as his XO to balance out his own personal defects

    People who take their own lives don't want to die; they just want their suffering to stop, they want stop being a burden on people. Many suicide survivors talk about their intentions were not to end their lives,but end their pain. They feel that nothing is working, nobody is helping.

    This relates to those who have been in Data's position by suddenly becoming the grand poohbah over those they literally a day ago were rank and file with, and further know their assignment is likely temporary only so they'd have to go back to the floor. It does create the tension that Data was trying to express of a lost friendship because of this issue - happens quite a bit.

    Funny how they try to use Data as a means of pushing the whole "It's not the right answer" schtick, considering he lacks emotions which are a major component of what motivates troubled people into following through on such thoughts.

    god i loved this show. it made me feel old when i googled when it was airing on TV. i dont even think thats a thing anymore 'airing on TV'. even as a teenager, i looked forward to the new episode of TNG. i remember seinfeld was also on the same night, and if you timed it right you could watch some during commercials. thats another thing that i find interesting, when the internet became a feasible means of consuming content, it was sold to us as a commercial free, no cables option to old , outdated television. look what its become now, a commercial ridden nightmare, although they call the commercials 'ads' now, its all the same. you cant even record the shows you might miss now, without paying for the privilege

  • @llynellyn
    @llynellyn 29 днів тому

    People mentioning Kruge taking hostages on genesis need to remember that in TNG and all following Star Trek series the Klingons and Romulans were basically swapped around, hence why Worf and the TNG Klingons had more in common with ToS Romulans than ToS Klingons, and why the TNG Romulans like Tomalak had more in common with a ToS Klingon such as Kruge. On a comical note, there's a long standing rumour this change was made accidentally as the TNG writers forgot that the Romulans were the honourable ones and the Klingons the deceitful scoundrels :D
